With reference to my memorandum of the 13th.
instant, I have the honour to make the following recommenda-
tions in respect of the Chinese Police:-
In 1869 Chinese Land Police appear to have
been employed for the first time. There was but one class &
the pay was $10 a month.
In 1870 a 2nd.,3rd. & 4th, class were added
the rate of pay of each being $9,$8 and $7 respectively.
In 1872 the fourth class was abolished the
rate of pay of the others remaining the same.
In 1875 in consequence of the Report of the
Police Commission the rates of pay were raised to
1st. Class.
